Sideboard

An enfilade is a long, low sideboard typical of the mid-century style. With its tapered legs and sliding doors, it has become a design classic.

An enfilade is placed against a wall in the living room or dining room. Decorate the top with a mirror, a lamp, and a few decorative objects.

Pitfall: a damaged vintage enfilade without restoration. Sand, oil, and replace the handles to give it new life.

Unlike a traditional sideboard, an enfilade is lower and typically has sliding doors rather than hinged doors. This more streamlined design integrates better into modern and open spaces.

The length of an enfilade should be proportionate to the size of your room. Generally, an enfilade between 150 and 180 cm long will be perfectly suitable for a medium-sized living room. Avoid overly bulky models that would dominate the space.

The enfilade adapts to many decor styles. For a Scandinavian interior, opt for a light wood and minimalist enfilade. In a more contemporary living room, a black or gray lacquered enfilade will be elegant. Finally, the mid-century style pairs perfectly with an enfilade featuring tapered legs.

Place the enfilade along a wall, preferably facing a sofa or television. Leave at least 80 cm of space in front for free movement. You can also use it to delineate a dining area in an open-plan living room.

An enfilade offers an ideal surface for storage and decoration. You can place plants, photo frames, candles, or decorative objects on it. However, avoid overcrowding it to maintain its sleek and minimalist look.
