Terracotta tiles

Tomettes are hexagonal terracotta tiles, typical of Provençal and old houses. Their warm hue and patina create an authentic atmosphere.

Old tomettes can be renovated (sanding, treatment). Their rosy hue pairs well with white, linen, and light wood for an updated country chic look.

Mistake: varnishing old tomettes, which makes them lose their patina. Use linseed oil or wax to nourish without distorting.

Warm colors like terracotta, ochre, or brown perfectly match the natural hue of tomettes. You can also choose shades of blue, green, or gray to create subtle contrasts.

To preserve the old and authentic appearance of tomettes, avoid overly aggressive cleaning products. Opt for gentle cleaning with black soap or a special tomette product. Regularly apply a colorless sealer to protect the surface.

Staggered laying, with an offset between each row, is ideal for tomettes. This creates a very characteristic harmonious disorder effect. Be sure to respect the joints between the tiles for an authentic result.

In addition to their antique charm, tomettes offer many practical advantages. They are durable, easy to maintain, and perfectly suited for high-traffic areas such as kitchens or entrances. Their non-slip texture also makes them safe.

Tomettes combine very well with other natural coverings such as parquet, tiles, or stone. For example, you can use them as a border for another floor to create a harmonious transition. However, avoid mixing them with overly modern materials.
